Spirulina Protein Smoothie

First pumpkin spice misto (I prefer them over lattes) of the season and look what I got.

The barista at Starbucks thought she was funny and my coworkers and I actually thought it was pretty hilarious too. I guess that’s what I get for wearing my jersey outside of Baltimore.

I had planned to wake up early for the 6:45 am power yoga class this morning but I slept horribly and didn’t have the energy. We got home a little late from a HILARIOUS comedy show last night and I was up pretty much every 30 minutes from 1-6 this morning so needless to say, ‘rest’ trumped yoga. I’m planning to take the 70 minute class tonight at 6 before the Ravens game!  I ran 3.5 miles after work yesterday and my legs are a little sore, so yoga is sounding really good right about now. Hoping tomorrow morning I’ll be able to make it to the 6:45 class since we’re leaving straight after work for Jacksonville!

Since we haven’t gone grocery shopping in over a week and are leaving for the weekend tomorrow, this morning I had pretty limited options for breakfast. However, when in doubt, use up some frozen bananas! Last weekend my mom and I stopped at a natural foods store and I picked up a few packets of Spiru-tein protein powder and figured I’d give one a go this morning. Spirulina protein smoothie? There’s a first time for everything!

20130905-101049.jpgI mixed this packet with one frozen banana and a cup of almond milk and the result was one of the thickest smoothies I’ve ever had. It was also really, really good. I’m always hesitant with new protein powders because it’s really hit or miss, but I loved this flavor!

Time to get through work, hot yoga and then park my butt on the couch for the Ravens game tonight! Have a happy Thursday!
